Snapchat & Social Media
Be aware of Snapchat and other social media apps.
Snapchat is a fun social media and communication app where users can send messages, images, and videos to each other. Unlike traditional text messages or direct message apps, the communications ‘vanish’ after the user sends and receives them.

How you can help
Take Action
Here are some simple things you can do to ensure the youth in your life feel like they are cared for, and that their concerns are valid.
Ensure that kids feel safe when asking questions about drug use and misuse at home.
Take an interest in one of their interests, such as music, movies, sports, or art.
Take note of their thoughts and include your own when discussing social media accounts.
Realize that they can have a false sense of security if purchasing drugs from someone they know.
You should be genuine with kids, as they can tell when we aren't being honest with them.
Communicate as a team. Once a trusting relationship is established, discuss drug use and social media. Let them know that you are aware of this issue, and set some rules for safety in the form of collaboration and problem-solving.
Be mindful
You Shouldn’t
Here are some things you should be aware of when it comes to the potential risk of social media and online activity.
Social media dealers are often friends, people they already know, so don't paint them as predators, as you will lose credibility and appear uninformed.
Don't jump to conclusions - they might be using emojis that have been identified as "drug codes" but are actually using them for their intended purpose. Spend some time gathering information before jumping to conclusions.
Make sure you don't act as a "house police" or try to "catch" your kids. Set some ground rules for safety together with your kids.
